Kyoto Calling : A Pictorial
Oct 2007 : After the bright lights and extravagance of Tokyo, a side trip on the shinkansen to Kyoto yielded a quieter, more reflective city; an old world jostling with the new. Here, with Seamus, we had our most memorable meal, at Kikunoi. Amongst some of the many memorable dishes : mushroom tea served from a teapot with a squeeze of lime, a soothing cup of kyobancha, brown sugar and crysanthemum jelly eaten with a pointy skewer, and my first taste of Ayu (sweetfish; first presented to us fresh and flipping around in a shallow basket, then their bellies split before being grilled).

Great photos! Sounds like lots of fun. Those are sweet potatos in the bottom photo – love the Japanese sweet potato. I would love a McPork!

How cute are those owls! They can make any creature cute (they even cutify the octopus). And the McPork! Did you try it?

Hey Y….thanks for stopping by. Also, guess what we were planning a trip to Japan..but couldn’t zero in on which city to visit.
So now I want you to guide me…which season is the best to visit n where to go? We were thinking of the christmas weekend…and I love sightseeing–monuments and nature, both.
HELP! 😛
xoxo

Sounds that you’ve got a lovely trip, Y. I haven’t visited Japan yet. I have to go to Italy, and France first, and then Japan will come third hehehe…

Gash, you always take such gorgeous pictures, but I swear everything looks even better in Japan. What is it with that place?! Something in the air I guess 🙂

the projectivist : Funny you should say that, because those cakes are all fake display items. Typically the kind of thing you see in front of Japanese food outlets. They were so glossy and pretty though. I took the picture of McPork because I thought it was a hilarious name.
Ffichiban: Haven’t eaten any McD in years and years! More than a decade, I think. I’ll need to get working on more pictures – once I have a bit more time 🙂
Manggy : The air, the food, the people.. sigh 🙂

I wish we could hang out as pals so you could pass on some of those macarons! What tasty flavors :).
I’ve never made a cherry pie either, just a little turnover :P.
